Uttar Pradesh fights food adulteration: new mandatory rules

The Uttar Pradesh government has taken stringent measures to combat the recent cases of food adulteration reported across the state. In a high-level meeting, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered mandatory display of names and addresses of operators, owners and managers of food centres.

Staff, including cooks and waiters, must now wear masks and gloves, and the installation of CCTV cameras in all hotels and restaurants is mandatory. The new rules aim to ensure food is clean and safe, following several incidents where human excrement was found in food products.

The measures follow viral videos and arrests over adulterated food in various districts, which prompted a thorough investigation and verification of all food establishments across the state. However, the opposition has criticized the move, alleging discrimination against certain communities.
