US President Joe Biden delivered his final speech to the gathering, summing up his decades-long foreign policy career and telling his fellow leaders that “some things are more important than staying in power”.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that Lebanon is “on the brink” as Israel carries out indiscriminate attacks on Hezbollah there.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in his first speech to the General Assembly condemned Israel’s bombardment of Gaza and the recent mobile device explosions in Lebanon, saying the attack “cannot go unanswered.”
The Security Council has scheduled an emergency meeting on Lebanon for Wednesday evening after discussing the war in Ukraine. At a council session on Ukraine on Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken called on China, Iran and North Korea to support Russia.
