Attention, Samsung users. A change is coming today that may cause some inconvenience. Starting today, September 25, using the Galaxy Store will require you to create a Samsung account. Of course, most of the apps you probably have on your phone come from the Google Play Store. However, if you install apps that are only available through the Galaxy Store, such as Samsung Good Lock, and you don’t have a Samsung account, you’ll need to create one.

The company recently announced a change to how the Galaxy Store can be accessed. While it has traditionally been accessible without a Samsung account, starting today, users will be asked to sign in upon launching the app if they haven’t already. Additionally, users will need to create a Samsung account to update apps downloaded from the Galaxy Store. However, pre-installed apps like the Gallery app and Photo Editor will continue to receive updates via new firmware releases from Samsung.

How to create a Samsung account

A Samsung account lets you access other services, such as Samsung Pay and Samsung Cloud, in addition to Galaxy Store. Follow the steps below to create a Samsung account on your Galaxy phone.

  • Open Settings
  • Select Samsung account.
  • Select Forgot your password or don’t have an account?
  • Select “Create an Account.”
  • Check the terms and conditions and click I accept.
  • Enter the required information
  • Click “Create Account.”
  • Enter your phone number
  • Click “Send”
  • Enter verification code
  • Click “Verify.”
  • Verify that the email address displayed is yours and click “Go to Inbox.”
  • Follow the instructions in the email.
