Matthew Sluka leaves UNLV in the middle of an undefeated season

Matthew Sluka cashes in his chips and leaves Las Vegas.

The undefeated UNLV point guard announced on social media Tuesday that he will not play in any more games this season.

Sluka suggested his departure was due to the NIL issue and added that he plans to remain in a sideline position this season instead.

“I committed to UNLV based on certain statements made to me that were not upheld after I enrolled,” X wrote on Twitter. “Despite discussions, it has become clear that those commitments will not be honored going forward. I wish my teammates the best this season and look forward to the continued success of the program.”

Las Vegas journalist Paloma Villicana reported that Sluka “was offered a larger sum of money.”

Sluka ran for 113 yards in the game.

UNLV is scheduled to host Fresno State (3-1, 1-0) in its Mountain West Conference opener on Saturday.
