Festive sales events to attract influx of customers, over 1 in 4 Indians to visit Flipkart for shopping

The upcoming festival sales events are expected to attract Indian customers and bring in huge business from e-commerce companies. According to media reports, more than one in four Indians will visit Flipkart during its flagship e-commerce sales festival, The Big Billion Days (BBD) 2024, as per senior executives.

The sale is set to begin on September 27, 2024, Business Standard reported. Quoting company executives, the report noted that Flipkart is investing and working on expanding its network and preparing for the upcoming sale. To meet the demand during the festive season, the company has also launched 11 new fulfillment centers and has generated over 100,000 jobs across over 40 regions.

The company has also increased its female workforce in the blue-collar sector by 24 per cent compared to last year’s BBD event. Harsh Chaudhary, Head of Growth (VP), Flipkart, noted, “Our enhanced supply chain technology, including machine learning (ML) for route planning and faster sorting, is enabling faster deliveries across 19,000 pin codes. We are also expanding same-day and next-day delivery services.”

The e-commerce player plans to help sellers deliver a high-quality experience to their customers through updated shipping rates, Flipkart Economy Fulfillment (FBF) rates, and simplified pricing. This pricing revamp initiative is part of the company’s strategy to streamline operations and provide strong support to sellers on its platforms.

Other e-commerce players like Amazon, Meesho will also start their festive sales from September 27. The e-commerce players along with online retailers are estimated to ship products worth $12 billion to Indian customers this festive season. This is 23 per cent more than the $9.7 billion worth of products shipped a year earlier, data from research firm Datum Intelligence revealed.
