Shopee, Tokopedia raise e-commerce fees to boost profitability

SINGAPORE — Southeast Asia’s largest online shopping platforms are demanding higher fees from sellers as they face increasing pressure to boost profitability in a challenging environment.

Improving “order acceptance rates” – the level of fees charged to sellers and orders – has become a key focus for driving revenue for regional platforms such as Shopee, Tokopedia and Lazada, especially as sales growth has slowed post-pandemic as shoppers returned to brick-and-mortar stores.
