Pune Porsche accident case: New evidence shows how doctors tried to ‘save’ teenage driver

New details emerged this week as Pune police filed a “supplementary final report” in the Porsche accident case. Officials say the teenage defendant – as well as several of his family members – were drunk at the time of the crash. Doctors at the Sassoon government hospital were then bribed to lie about alcohol levels in order to “save the teenager”.

Charges against the underage driver now include destruction of evidence and corruption, as well as a main charge of “culpable homicide not amounting to murder.”

The teenager is accused of driving a Porsche under the influence of alcohol in the early morning hours of May 19, when it collided with a motorcycle in the Kalyani Nagar area. Two young IT specialists died in the accident.

According to the police, the accused, his parents and brother were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Eyewitnesses at the crash site also claimed that the boy was so drunk that he could barely stand. However, shortly thereafter, a preliminary medical report stated that the juvenile tested “negative” for alcohol in his blood.

The police have now invoked the Prevention of Corruption Act against the 17-year-old and accuse him of colluding with his parents, doctors at the government-run Sassoon Hospital and several intermediaries to exchange samples. Ultimately, blood was taken allegedly from the mother to hide the fact that the minor was drunk.
