Apple may fix iPhone bugs as soon as this week

A new iOS 18 update could roll out as soon as next week to eliminate the gremlins that the latest iPhone software has unleashed.

Earlier this month, Apple released iOS 18 as part of its annual mobile operating system update, with new personalization features that can radically change the look of your home screen and beautify the messages you display.

But the software also carried some undesirable quirks. Users who installed the new system reported devices overheating, touchscreens not responding, and displays flickering, among other things.

Now it looks like Apple is preparing to address these issues in a new update called iOS 18.0.1.

Technology sites 9to5Mac and MacRumors have spotted signs of a new version in their analyses, which indicates that Apple is currently testing it before rolling it out to the masses.

What about Apple intelligence?

For now, it sounds like a small update for iPhone owners that is largely aimed at fixing these glitches rather than introducing new features.

Unfortunately, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 users will have to wait a little longer for Apple Intelligence, which will appear in October with the more powerful iOS 18.1 update.

iPadOS 18.0.1 is also on the way

However, the temporary update may still be valid for some iPad owners. Apple was recently forced to discontinue iPadOS 18 on iPad Pro M4 models after they stopped working after installing the update.

As a result, these devices still have not been updated to the new software weeks after its release. To speed them up, Apple is expected to release iPadOS 18.0.1 along with iOS 18.0.1.

Release date iOS 18.0.1

Typically, when Apple begins testing an update, it is publicly released shortly thereafter. As such, updates to both iPhone and iPad may arrive in the coming weeks – and possibly as early as this weekend or the first week of October.

It’s quite common for major iOS updates to contain bugs, and there are a few key reasons why.

Apple’s iOS is a complex system that runs on a variety of devices, and despite extensive testing, some issues get out of hand. New features may interfere with older features, and third-party apps may not always update on time.

Errors that commonly appear after updating include battery drain, connectivity issues, app crashes, and overheating. To its credit, Apple usually fixes critical bugs quickly, often releasing a minor update within a few days.

Apple has also given people using older iPhones and those who are hesitant to upgrade to iOS 18 the option to install iOS 17.7. Anyone who decides to do so is probably blissfully unaware of all the glitches and flaws.
