The Logitech MX Creative Console is designed for practical digital designers

Anyone who dabbles in video editing, layout design, or other creative computing endeavors on a daily basis will know that it’s all about buttons. Mice and pens are great interfaces, but today’s obsession with touchscreen controls isn’t easing the problems as developers wean themselves off complex keyboard shortcuts and the physical feedback of knobs and buttons.

Logitech has just unveiled a product aimed at maintaining muscle memory during training, joining a group of specialist technology providers such as Wacom and Xencelabs that have long met the very stringent demands of the design market. Could MX Creative Console make its way to designers’ computers around the world?

The product consists of two pieces, a battery-powered configurable dial and roller, as well as a separate nine-key keyboard grid that can accommodate up to 15 pages of data entry. You can assign a shortcut to every key, from commonly used tools to multimedia tools in apps like Spotify. Combine this with the numeric keypad and you can control the relevant software with your fingertips.

Bluetooth support is also available as standard, and the MX Creative Console is finished in charcoal gray or light gray. Logitech managed to use 72% post-consumer recycled plastic in the case, as well as specially developed “micro-textures” instead of conventional paint coatings and aluminum components produced from renewable sources.

The hardware appears to be up to Logitech’s usual high standards, proven by decades of creating accessories for both the Mac and PC ecosystems. MX is also cross-platform and focuses specifically on Adobe Creative Cloud tools, with customized plug-ins that work with Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, and other commonly used packages. Each console will also come with a three-month Creative Cloud membership.
