  • The Amazfit Helio Ring is getting a permanent price cut of $100, bringing it to $199.

  • Advanced sleep and fitness subscriptions are now free for all users.

  • Zepp app updates will improve the user experience with new features and a more user-friendly design, rolling out on October 14.

It’s 2024 and the smart ring market is more competitive than ever, with top competitors including Samsung’s Galaxy Ring and Oura Ring. Amazfit launched earlier this year with the Helio Ring, but struggled to gain traction due to two main issues: despite being marketed as a subscription-free product, it did not include some features that required a monthly subscription, and was priced at $299 . too high. The company is currently addressing both of these issues.

Amazfit has announced (via Android Central) a permanent $100 price cut for the Helio Ring, raising the price of the smart ring from $299 to $199. In addition to the price cut, Amazfit is making two subscriptions available, the Zepp Aura and Zepp Fitness features, free for both new and existing users, “for life.”

For the uninitiated: Helio Ring tracks sleep and fitness data without requiring a subscription. However, Zepp Aura offers advanced AI analytics such as sleep apnea and insomnia detection, while a Zepp Fitness subscription unlocks an AI chatbot that helps with training and recovery. Despite Helio Ring being advertised as “subscription-free,” Amazfit previously charged users $50 per year for each of these subscriptions. Now these services are free for all users.

To make the deal even more attractive, Amazfit is also revamping the Zepp app – the companion app that displays insights from the ring – with a new look and additional features. Upcoming features include a training effort score, a new health tracking section, and a food camera log.

It will also highlight which metrics “need attention” and present the data in a more user-friendly format. The new app is expected to launch on October 14 for both Amazfit Smart Ring and smartwatch users.

At $199 and completely subscription-free, the Amazfit Helio Ring now offers a more complete package compared to the Galaxy Ring, which costs almost twice as much. We’ll update our review when these new features become available and we’ve tested the ring again. However, with these updates, Helio Ring now seems like a more attractive option for anyone looking to try a smart ring for the first time.

The Amazfit Helio Ring is a classic-looking titanium ring that includes activity and heart rate sensors. It can tell you how far you’ve traveled and how well you’ve slept, all in a package as discreet as an ordinary wedding ring. While the size and battery life could still be improved, the $100 price cut and removal of subscription fees make this a much more attractive option.
