Flipkart sees 33 crore user visits as Big Billion Days begins

Flipkart recorded over 33 crore user visits on its platform during combined early access and the first day of its flagship festive sale, The Big Billion Days (TBBD) 2024.

The e-commerce player said in a statement that early trends indicate overall good customer sentiment, with categories such as mobile phones, electronics, major home appliances, fashion, beauty and home products enjoying the highest demand among customers.

While major metro cities like New Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bengaluru saw rising demand in the first 24 hours of TBBD 2024, smaller cities like Medinipur, Hisar, Berhampore, Bankura and Agartala etc. also saw demand.

During this sale, for the first time, Flipkart offered fast delivery under its new quick trade offer ‘Minutes’.

Flipkart said in a statement that in cities like Mumbai, 25% of all hyperlocal PIN electronics sales come from Flipkart Minutes deliveries. In Delhi, this increased to almost 40% for PINs now covered by Flipkart Minutes.

In the first 12 hours of this year’s TBBD, the top-selling electronic devices on Flipkart Minutes were laptops, computers, tablets and desktop accessories.

On the financing options side, Flipkart Pay Later EMI saw an 8.5x increase in daily transaction rate compared to the pre-TBBD period. Third-party EMI consumption has increased 27 times for spends and 18 times for transactions compared to the daily usage rate.

“Some of the early trends point to an increase in demand for categories that enable lifestyle enhancements, with tier 2 and above cities showing growth in the run-up to this year’s festive season,” Harsh Chaudhary, vice president of growth at Flipkart, said in a statement.

Meanwhile, CashKaro’s cashback and coupon website also saw sales 150 crore in the first six hours of sales on Amazon and Flipkart.

However, the sale came at a time when the CCI found that its investigations into Amazon and Flipkart violated competition laws by giving priority to select online retailers and smartphone brands. Subsequently, Reuters reported that three Flipkart sellers: CIGFIL Retail, Wishery Online and Xonique Ventures had availed the CCI in connection with the investigation and in their lawsuit stated that they had been summoned to produce data to assist officials in the investigation. However, they were later convicted as defendants.
