Google is reportedly planning to discontinue the Meet app on Android TV and Google TV.

Initially launched in 2020 as Duo during the COVID-19 pandemic, this video conferencing tool allows users to connect their webcam to their TV to video chat on a larger screen.

However, recent reports indicate that this feature may be eliminated soon.

According to Android office, new code in the latest update to Google Meet for Android TV and Google TV suggests that the app may be crashing.

The code includes the term “depreciation” and states: “You won’t soon be able to make calls using Google Meet on your Android TV device. Click below to see alternatives and learn more.”

While this message isn’t live on the app yet, it hints at Google’s future plans.

This isn’t the first time Google has taken such action; the company also discontinued Meet support for Samsung TVs in March.

For now, the app still works, but users may want to start considering alternatives.
