Tom Kim complains about Canadian fans being ‘too quiet’ after the President’s Cup draw

Taylor Pendrith was the first to say it: His fellow Canadians “need to speak up.”

Tom Kim then took the microphone.

“I think it was a little too quiet on home soil today,” said Kim, who like his international teammates was still licking his wounds from a 5-0 win over the U.S. in the first four-ball session of the Presidents Cup.

“I don’t think the fans were really – I wish they would have helped us a little more, especially being in Canada. I know how much they love golf. I definitely expect more crowds to be louder and to be on our side.”

Kim provided two of the few home roars around Royal Montreal on Thursday, trading birdie bombs with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler on the seventh hole before adding one of his own to win on the next hole. However, he and his partner Sungjae Im ultimately lost by 3 and 2 points in the most lopsided match of the day.

After Tom Kim birdied the seventh and fired up, Scottie Scheffler did the same.

“Those boys played great today,” Kim added, “but it definitely felt like I played great to our team, so being short sucks. But we will find a way.”

Kim, however, will join the cheerleaders on Friday; sits in the first session of foursomes.

“It was part of the plan,” international team captain Mike Weir said of Kim’s benching. “It wasn’t a change from that event or anything like that. We have a plan for four and we have a plan for four. Tomek wasn’t in the plans for (Friday), but that doesn’t mean he may not be there in the future. We’re sticking to the plan.”
