IBA expects to attract investments worth Rs 1,600 crore in the biogas sector at REI 2024

New Delhi: The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) expects an investment of around Rs 1,600 crore in the sector during the Renewable Energy India Expo (REI) 2024, which starts on Thursday.

IBA, the country’s leading organization representing operators, producers and planners of biogas installations, is optimistic about the opportunities this high-profile event will bring.

I’m talking to PTIIBA president Gaurav Kedia, said, “Investments worth around Rs 1,600 crore in the biogas sector are expected to be announced during REI 2024.”

He stated that REI Expo 2024 is expected to attract 20 percent more participants compared to last year.

Kedia emphasized the huge untapped potential of the biogas sector.

He stressed that although its current contribution to the energy mix is less than one per cent, the sector is poised to grow significantly and can play a key role in India’s energy future by 2030.

The association is convinced that the fair will give a significant impetus to the biogas industry.

The Bioenergy Pavilion 2024 is also supported by ministries and prominent organizations, including: Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, National Bioenergy Institute and World Bioenergy Association.

The three-day event will be held at the India Expo Center in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh and is recognized as one of India’s leading renewable energy innovation platforms.

Achievements in various sectors will be showcased, such as bioenergy, solar energy, wind energy, electric vehicles and energy storage solutions.

The event aims to support India on its path to achieving its net zero emissions target.

Biogas India President AR Shukla took stock of the success of last year’s Bioenergy Pavilion, noting the various initiatives announced.

“We anticipate that this year’s event will arouse great interest from investors.” Shukla said the fair is expected to attract over 50,000 participants, driven by the growing focus on the bioenergy sector and continued government support.

Over the years, REI Expo has become the leading platform for renewable energy stakeholders to showcase cutting-edge technologies, products and solutions while fostering meaningful industry interactions.

India holds great promise for biogas development as it has the potential to produce around 62 million tonnes of compressed biogas per year, equivalent to almost 7% of the country’s current fuel consumption.

The biogas sector is therefore a key solution to reducing dependence on imported fuels while taking into account environmental issues.
