Haason Reddick’s lost earnings are quickly approaching eight figures as the New York Jets forward continues to hold on as the leader.

Ahead of the Jets’ Week 4 game against the Denver Broncos, ESPN’s Rich Cimini noted that Reddick forfeited $3.16 million in game checks, an individual value of nearly $792,000. This is in addition to the $5.9 million in mandatory and discretionary monetary penalties assessed against him.

It was an expensive summer break for ‘#Jets” LB Haason Reddick.

Fines/Confiscations ($5.07 million)
Minicamp: $101,716
Boot Camp: $2,050,000
Preseason: $2,375,000
Training Bonus: $250,000
Discretionary penalty: $300,000

He will lose an additional $791,666 per week in the regular season…

Cimini also clarified that the Jets will be eligible to collect a portion of Reddick’s prorated signing bonus starting in Week 5. The total could be another $2.74 million.

The two-time Pro Bowler is clearly determined to either earn a new contract in New York or force a departure to another team. Sooner or later, however, he will have to end his break, because extending it for the entire season may not help.

Joel Corry of CBSSports.com wrote that the Jets could seek to extend Reddick’s contract through 2024 if the impasse lasts long enough. This would prevent the 30-year-old from entering free agency and leave him on New York’s books for 2025.

The Nov. 5 trade deadline, however, gives general manager Joe Douglas a ticking tick of his own. It’s in the Jets’ best interest to resolve this one way or another, and Reddick’s value decreases with each passing week.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported Saturday that “other executives around the league think the Jets should start making calls.”

“I don’t sense panic in New York, especially considering the play of 2023 first-round pick Will McDonald was better than expected (five sacks),” she reported. “As for Reddick, unless he signs a new contract, I don’t expect him to show up anytime soon. At this point, it might be more surprising if he ever plays for the Jets.”

New York took a risk in acquiring Reddick because his desire to extend his contract was overt. Now the worst-case scenario is coming true for everyone involved.
