Renewable energy developer recognized | The Manila Times

A PAMPANGA-BASED renewable energy developer and one of the pioneers of solar energy in the country has gained the attention of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) when it earned a Golden Arrow for its corporate governance standards and practices based on the Asean corporate governance scorecard (ACGS).

Raslag Corp., whose name was derived from the Pampango-word “aslag” which means light, earned Golden Arrow for establishing top-tier practices within its operations, including enterprise risk management, internal audits and yearly sustainability reports.

The Golden Arrow is awarded to companies that achieved a score of at least 80 points in the ACGS Assessment, an initiative by the Asean Capital Market Forum to improve the corporate governance standards and practices of publicly listed companies in the Asean region and to enhance the international visibility of well-governed Asean companies.

“Our mission of lighting the future with renewables will always include a higher standard of accountability, transparency, and ethical leadership,” said Robert Nepomuceno, president and CEO of Raslag, in reaction to the recognition.

“We are excited to keep scaling up our renewable energy sources in a responsible and sustainable way,” he added.

The company has built on the legacy of being run by the Nepomuceno group, with most of its directors hailing from Angeles Electric Corp., which has provided electricity to the region for over one hundred years.

Nepomuceno said as they aim to support the future of the nation’s energy security, the company has appointed an expert in the renewable energy space as lead independent director, together with other corporate governance experts.

“The company understands the Philippines’ vulnerability to climate change and natural disasters, as well as the need to mitigate these risks to ensure uninterrupted solar power generation,” he said.

He said Raslag utilizes innovative designs and technologies to strengthen equipment and facilities against natural disasters.

Nepomuceno further pointed out that continuous weather monitoring, robust disaster resilience plans and strategic site selection all work to ensure Raslag’s projects are well-protected, continuously adding to the nation’s power grid.

He said Raslag also consistently uplifts the communities where its plants are based, providing corporate social responsibility programs for the schools in various Pampanga villages.

Raslag has been a renewable energy developer since 2013 and has been publicly listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange since 2022.
