‘The Writing was on the Wall’: 9-1-1: EP Lone Star Gets Honest About Fox Series Cancellation

The fifth and final season of the series 9-1-1: Lone Star started on Fox in TV schedule for 2024 after a one-year time jump star’s departureand on the route there was a serious crisis related to a train derailment. Apparently, the season five finale was not planned as a series finale, as the series ended before the official news of its cancellation. We knew that the chances of a show especially like ours, which has quite a big budget – especially in the current environment, because we have a lot of action, we have a big cast – we knew it would be a challenge and maybe insurmountable. a challenge to bring the series back. When we are owned by Disney and broadcast on Fox, just from a financial, numbers, purely business standpoint, it didn’t make much sense for these two companies to find a way to work together to make this happen.

9-1-1: Lone Star it certainly has a large ensemble of characters, and the departure of Sierra McClain didn’t really shrink the cast. Whereas if we were working at the same studio network as when the show started – before the Disney merger, it was Fox’s 20th show at its inception – maybe it would be easier to understand if we were in that situation.

9-1-1: Lone Star it ultimately premiered in early 2020, just a few months before the entertainment industry more or less shut down due to Covid-19. That was less than a year after merger of Disney and 21st Century Fox became official. To its credit, the show has weathered some major hurdles, including the Covid-19 pandemic and strikes.
