Mercedes-Benz pollution compliance issues resolved: Industry Minister Samant

Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant has confirmed that the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has no further issues with the Mercedes-Benz plant at Chakan in Pune, assuring that the company will continue operations in the state without any disruption.

The statement was issued after the MPCB recently issued a notice to Mercedes-Benz for alleged non-compliance with environmental regulations at its Chakan plant. The notification identified numerous violations, including discharges of untreated and partially treated sewage, air emissions and failure to modernize equipment necessary for proper waste processing.

However, addressing the media in Pune, Minister Samant clarified that after discussions with Mercedes-Benz officials, the matter had been resolved. “Mercedes-Benz is a significant company that has now complied with all the necessary regulations. Nobody wants the company to go elsewhere,” Samant said.

He also mentioned that he had spoken to Prime Minister Eknath Shinde regarding this notification. “The case has been closed and no further action is expected. The matter has been resolved,” Samant added, putting an end to speculations about the potential impact of this decision on the company’s future operations in Maharashtra.
