After ditching Chinese financing, UAE enters AI alliance with US as part of ‘tech hedging strategy’

The agreement was formalized last Monday, and the two countries’ national security advisers approved “common principles of cooperation on artificial intelligence” during a meeting in Washington.

Under the rules, state-owned technology companies in the United Arab Emirates will avoid partnerships with Chinese artificial intelligence companies deemed by the U.S. for national security reasons.

However, analysts expect that cooperation with Chinese companies will continue in politically neutral areas, such as renewable energy.

Artificial intelligence partnerships were one of three areas highlighted by the US president Joe Biden during talks on September 23 with the President of the Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
