Health Care Inc: CEOs Take Home Huge Salaries in a Victory for the Pharmaceutical Industry

How much do the most important health care figures earn?

Health care stocks lagged the broader market in 2023, and this was reflected in the compensation packages of many CEOs.

My colleagues and I have ended our annual tradition of analyzing CEO compensation. We entered 2023 data on 313 healthcare CEOs and found that they earned a total of $3.5 billion last year compared to $4 billion in 2022. The average CEO took home $11 million, while the median was $4.1 million. These numbers compare to an average of $13 million and a median of $4.3 million in 2022.
