Is Governor DeSantis Breaking the Law During the Florida Abortion Fight?

The fight over abortion in Florida is intensifying, and the fight over Amendment 4 is gaining national attention as opponents and supporters clash in the courts.

Gov. Ron DeSantis is leading the charge against Republicans who repeatedly draw on taxpayer-funded funds to fight the November ballot initiative.

If passed, Amendment 4 would overturn Florida’s six-week abortion ban.

Supporters of the amendment say the actions of DeSantis and the Republican Party are simply a “government overreach” and that the state government is violating the law.

While DeSantis and members of his camp say, “Well, we’re just educating the public and protecting Floridians.”

The courts must decide this issue as soon as possible, as voting begins in just three weeks.

The program of the latest episode of “Paths to the Polls” also includes a fresh look at the electoral map.

The winner of the East Oval Office appears to be Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia.

Some political analysts say that if former President Donald Trump wins these three, he will return to the White House.

So what does this look like for Vice President Kamala Harris? Well, if she can hold on to the Keystone State, her only hope seems to be the Southern strategy. He has to win either Georgia or North Carolina. Analysts say there is no other way for her to get to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Broadly speaking, this means that the election may be decided after polls close in the Eastern time zone. And of course after all the votes are counted!

There is a caveat here. Four other states on the battlefield are important. We can’t leave out Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada and Arizona.

If Harris loses Pennsylvania, she’ll still have to pick one of two Western states as well as one of two Southern states to win – as long as she carries Michigan and Wisconsin.

But back to square one, if Trump wins the trifecta of Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia and locks it in those states – Fuhgeddaboudit!

And here in the Sunshine State, an interesting question: Is Florida back in the game for a run for the White House? This is what one US election expert thinks.

In his opinion, this is due to several factors. Among them is what he calls DeSantis’ push to pass unpopular legislation on social issues such as a six-week abortion ban, LGBTQ+ policies and controversial education policies.

Political analyst Daniel Cronrath joins me this week to discuss these topics and more in “Vote 2024: The Road to the Polls.”
