Ransomware attacks on healthcare continue to increase in number and severity

Ransomware attacks in healthcare continue to rise despite declines in many other sectors, according to the Sophos State of Ransomware in Healthcare 2024 report. Across all industry sectors, the number of organizations reporting they had been the victim of a ransomware attack in the last 12 months dropped from 66% in 2023 to 59% in 2024. Sophos surveyed 402 organizations in the healthcare industry and 67% said they had experienced a ransomware attack in the last 12 months, up from 60% the previous year and 66% who experienced ransomware attacks in 2022.
