IIT Bombay collaborates with ABB to set up Electrical Machinery and Drives Laboratory on campus | News from the capital market

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has partnered with ABB India to set up a state-of-the-art teaching laboratory for electrical machines and drives on its campus at the Faculty of Energy Science and Engineering. The aim of this partnership is to provide undergraduate and postgraduate students with hands-on experience using modern industrial equipment and to prepare undergraduate and postgraduate students for future roles in the rapidly developing energy and industrial sectors, while promoting environmental sustainability.

The teaching laboratory will be equipped with energy-efficient, mechanically coupled sets of electric machines, variable frequency drives (VFDs) and programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and the emphasis will be on providing hands-on training in electric machines and drives. The lab will emulate a variety of industrial applications, including those used in wind turbine generators and electric vehicle drive systems, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of modern energy systems. With ABB India’s support, the lab will help nurture the next generation of engineers, equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to innovate as they join the industry in a sustainable way in the future.
