“We are taking action given the situation. However, it is also problematic to use too much force in front of the chief advisor’s residence. There are still a few people here now.”

Due to the demonstrations, traffic was suspended on the road from the intersection with the InterContinental Hotel to the Kakrail Mosque. The police and army took up positions around the protesters.

Earlier, protesters held a rally in front of the National Museum in the capital’s Shahbagh, joined by students of educational institutions from different parts of the country, as well as men and women of different ages.

At around 1:30 p.m., protesters broke through the police barricade and marched from Shahbagh to California’s residence. Around 2 p.m., police fired several rounds of tear gas shells to disperse them.

Protesters said that due to various reasons, including the Covid-19 pandemic, political unrest and session shutdowns, many had crossed the age limit of 30, unable to complete their studies and apply for government jobs.

In this situation, they demanded that the age limit be raised to a maximum of 35 years.
