In February 2024, India nominated four Air Force pilots as candidates for its maiden space voyage. The names of the astronauts are Group Captain Mr. Prashanth Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Mr. Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Mr. Angad Pratap and Wing Commander Mr. Subhanshu Shukla. These officers, selected from the Indian Air Force, have completed 13 months of training in Russia and are continuing their training in India. Before the astronauts travel, various tests will be carried out to ensure that safety measures are in place. Initially, a dummy spacecraft will be released from the aircraft to assess the functionality of the parachutes as part of the Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT). A test of the escape system, called the Pad Abort Test (PAT), will then be conducted to test its effectiveness in removing astronauts from the rocket in emergency situations. Additionally, a humanoid robot named Vyommitra will embark on a mission to assess the suitability of the spacecraft for passengers as part of a crew abort test mission.
