The Eagles are finally victorious – Sport

Namibia’s Richelieu Eagles finally clinched victory in their Tri-Nations series as they defeated United UAE by eight wickets at the field yesterday.

The Namibian bowlers, captained by JJ Smit, created a platform by beating the UAE to a sub-par 190 – a target that was never going to be enough as Namibia achieved it with ease, losing two wickets, with a score of over 20. overs in hand.

Smit made an early breakthrough in the UAE innings by dismissing Aryansh Sharma for a duck, and when Tangeni Lungameni dismissed Muhammad Waseem for one run, they were two down with just 15 runs on the board.

Alishan Sharafu (31) and Vishnu Sukumaran (30) revived their innings but the Namibian bowlers batted them away with their usual wickets, followed further down by only Asif Khan on 26 and Ali Naseer on 61 off 62 balls (7×4, 2×6) . the order could have made a big impression before the entire team was bowled out for 190 off 43.2 overs.

Smit was Namibia’s standout bowler with three wickets for 50 runs and 8.2 overs, while Tangeni Lungameni took 2/36 and Bernard Scholtz 2/26.

Namibia’s innings started brilliantly with Michael van Lingen and JP Kotze sharing the first wickets at 98 in just 13.1 overs before Van Lingen was bowled by Basil Hameed for 67 off 43 balls (12×4, 2×6 ).

JP Kotze was dismissed for 40 off 53 balls (6×4), but Gerhard Erasmus and Zane Green continued the batting attack, sharing an unbroken third-wicket partnership of 47 runs to help Namibia claim a comfortable eight-wicket victory with 31 overs to spare.

Erasmus was not out on 59 off 46 balls (6×4, 3×6) while Green was not out on 21 off 21 balls (3×4).

This was Namibia’s first win in the Tri-Nations home series after losing the first match against the UAE and both matches against the USA.

The victory moved them to fourth place in the Cricket World Cup League 2 log with 10 points from 12 matches, but Scotland are just behind them with nine points from just seven matches. The United Arab Emirates remain at the bottom of the table with two points, while the United States were the biggest winners of the series, winning all four games to move to second place in the table with 12 points, just behind Canada with 14 points.

The series of over 50 players has come to an end. Namibia, the US and the UAE will now take part in the three-nation T20 series, which starts at the Wanderers ground on Sunday, when Namibia takes on the UAE at 2pm.
