African Business Coalition for Health assumes new role as new secretariat of the Corporate Alliance Against Malaria in Africa

The African Business Coalition for Health (ABCHealth) is pleased to announce the appointment of the new Secretariat of the Corporate Malaria Alliance in Africa (CAMA).

This development marks a pivotal moment in our journey to improve health systems across the continent as we take over management of CAMA from the Global Business Coalition for Health (GBCHealth) in New York.

CAMA focuses on mobilizing the private sector to create effective partnerships to control and eliminate malaria in workplaces and communities.

It creates opportunities for the private sector to work with others and with leaders from governments, non-governmental organizations, academia and other sectors to increase their impact on the fight against malaria. As the new CAMA Secretariat, ABCHealth will build on the successes achieved over the past 17 years, providing value to its members in terms of importance and scale of impact in the fight against malaria.

This appointment is a key milestone in GBCHealth’s plan to transition its operations to a wholly African-led business. Placing CAMA’s leadership and governance within ABCHealth is a testament to its theory of change in cultivating partnerships and mobilizing private sector resources to improve health care in Africa and transform the way it works. ABCHEalth works closely with private sector leaders in Africa, as well as global organizations, to help improve the health and well-being of all Africans.

This new mandate to lead CAMA and its valued member organizations, as well as the broader malaria ecosystem, to collectively control and ultimately eliminate malaria across the continent is a responsibility that ABCHealth is proud to undertake.

Global business leader, Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, founder and president of the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation and president of ABCHealth, whose philanthropic roles include: “The current challenges facing African healthcare and the disproportionate burden of disease reinforce the strong business case for private sector involvement in healthcare. CAMA’s transition to ABCHealth is another opportunity for public and private sector partners to work together to improve health outcomes across Africa.”

Zouera Youssoufou, CEO of the Aliko Dangote Foundation and Board Director of ABCHealth, expressed her delight at the move; “Our Principal and Co-Founder of ABCHealth, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who is also the Chairman of the Malaria Council of Nigeria, looks forward to increasing CAMA’s impact in Africa now that the organization will be fully led by Africans.”

Mories Atoki (PhD), CEO of ABCHealth, said: “Our Coalition is fully committed to the further development of CAMA. We recognize the impact of members’ actions and look forward to working with all of them, as well as new members, in the coming year and beyond. We appreciate the unwavering support of the CAMA Leadership Council (Access Bank, Chevron, the Aliko Dangote Foundation and ExxonMobil) throughout this transformation and their continued commitment to the Alliance’s goal of a malaria-free Africa.”

Lesley-Anne Long, former president and CEO of GBCHealth, said; “CAMA has been one of GBCHealth’s flagship programs for over 15 years, and we are pleased that its influential work will continue within ABCHealth.”
