Indonesian companies expect new halal regulations to boost growth

JAKARTA – Indonesian businesses operating in the consumer and real estate sectors believe that a regulation requiring halal certification for products, which comes into force this month, will prove to be a growth opportunity both domestically and in exports.

The government will require food and beverage companies in the world’s most populous Muslim country and their raw material suppliers to obtain halal certification from the Ministry of Religious Affairs by October 17. Those who do not comply with these requirements may face fines or their products may be withdrawn from shelves.
