Poppy Liu and Chris Bauer Join Netflix Limited Series ‘His & Hers’

EXCLUSIVE: Mak Liu (Hooks, Space Cadet) and Chris Bauer (Comrades Travelers, Wire) have joined the cast of the Netflix limited series His and Hers in recurring roles. They will perform alongside the series’ main character and EP Tessa Thompson. Production is scheduled to start this fall.

The six-episode limited series by William Oldroyd, based on the novel by Alice Feeney, is set in the heat of Atlanta, where Anna (Thompson) lives in agonizing loneliness and distances herself from her friends and her journalistic career. But when she overhears a murder in Dahlonega – the sleepy town where she grew up – she is brought back to life, rushes to the case and seeks answers. Detective Jack Harper (Jon Bernthal) is strangely suspicious of her involvement and pursues her in the crosshairs of his own investigation. Every story has two sides, his and hers, which means someone is always lying.

Liu will play Helen Wang, headmistress of St. Patrick’s Academy. Hilary, who is fiercely protective. She is a good friend of the murder victim and Anna becomes increasingly annoyed and angry with the reports, but Anna can’t help but feel that Helen is hiding something.

Bauer will play Clyde Duffie, Rachel’s husband and a pizza chain tycoon who is very honest about his enormous wealth. After Rachel is found murdered in the woods, she becomes the object of detective Jack Harper’s interest, and the secrets she hides may make him the perfect suspect.

His and Hers also stars Pablo Schreiber, Crystal Fox, Sunita Mani, Rebecca Rittenhouse and Marin Ireland.

The limited series is from writer/executive producer Bill Dubuque; writer/executive producer Dee Johnson, who serves as showrunner; director William Oldroyd, who writes, executive produces and will direct the first episode; and executive producers Jessica Chastain and Kristen Campo. The fifth season is studio.

Liu is best known for her role as “Kiki” on the critically acclaimed series Max Hooksfor which she was nominated for a SAG Award in the “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series” category. She will soon be seen in the Netflix drama series No good deedalongside Ray Romano and Lisa Kudrow. Liu also appeared at Apple afterparty, Amazon Dead Bell Menand AMC Better call Saul. As for her feature role, she was recently seen in an Amazon feature film Space Cadetalongside Emma Roberts. Liu is repped by Buchwald, Framework Entertainment and Schreck Rose Dapello.

Bauer will next be seen alongside Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen in the Paramount+ limited series, JonBenetand on Rian Johnson’s Peacock series Poker faceopposite Natasha Lyonne. He recently played the unrecognizable “Senator McCarthy” in the Peabody Award-winning series Comrades Travelersfor Showtime. He currently stars in the Netflix series as pro wrestler “Wild Bill Hancock.” Heels. His numerous television appearances include “Frank Sobotka” on HBO Wireand “Andy Bellefleur” w True Blood also from HBO.
