The Adani Group will power Google’s cloud services in India

ABSTRACT

The Adani Group will provide clean energy for Google’s cloud services and operations in India by supplying power from a new hybrid solar project located at the 30 GW Khavda renewable energy park in Gujarat

Google intends to run its cloud operations and services using electricity from the grid and plans to run them exclusively on clean energy by 2030

Additionally, Google is also partnering with Mumbai-based renewable energy company CleanMax to enable a portfolio of 125.4 MW of new clean energy projects

The Adani Group, led by billionaire Gautam Adani, will provide clean energy for Google’s cloud services and operations in India.

The group will supply power from a new hybrid solar project located at the 30 gigawatt (GW) Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat.

It’s worth noting that Google powers most of its cloud operations and services on grid electricity and plans to power them exclusively with clean energy by 2030.

The tech giant said in a statement that the collaboration with Adani Group aims to source bundled energy solutions and accelerate the decarbonization of the former’s cloud services in India.

“With proven capabilities in large-scale wind, solar, hybrid and energy storage projects, Adani is well positioned to deliver tailored renewable energy solutions to commercial and industrial (C&I) customers to meet their energy requirements and reduce their footprint coal,” the Adani Group said in a separate statement.

The group further added, “Going forward, Adani plans to increase focus on commercial and C&I segments to help decarbonize the industries.”

Additionally, Google is also partnering with Mumbai-based renewable energy company CleanMax to enable a portfolio of 125.4 MW of new clean energy projects, including 66 MW of solar in Rajasthan and 59.4 MW of wind in Karnataka .

“We are excited to partner with Google on its decarbonization initiative in India,” said Kuldeep Jain, managing director at CleanMax.

Jain also said, “This collaboration with Google not only sets new standards in environmental leadership, but also illustrates our shared commitment to making a real difference in the fight against climate change.”

These projects are expected to begin commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2025 and will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 250,000 tonnes annually, the company also said in a statement.

With growing concerns about the demand for clean energy, global companies have started partnering with Indian cleantech companies to invest in renewable energy solutions.

For example, iPhone maker Apple has struck a deal joint venture together with CleanMax, invest in six rooftop solar projects with a total capacity of 14.4 MW to help Apple reduce the carbon footprint of its operations in India.
