Delivery Executives Demand Safety After Shocking Killing of Colleague | LucknowNews

Lucknow: “Who will ensure ours safety? Why was Bharat killed?”. Holding placards displaying these messages, several delivery executives protested outside the warehouse of an e-commerce portal in Chinhat on Thursday.
The protest was held in the wake of the horrific killing of Bharat Kumar, a delivery executive who was allegedly killed in a well-hatched plan by three customers.Bharat had gone to deliver two high-end phones worth lakhs of rupees at an address near Matiyari in Chinhat on Sep 24 when the accused customers snatched the phones, one of which was an iPhone, and strangled him. They dumped his body in a canal near the Maati area.
The protesters demanded maximum punishment for the accused and voiced concerns regarding their safety while on the job. They claimed facing rude behavior, quarrels and abuse every day from customers which puts their lives in danger. The family members of Bharat also joined the protest and demanded proper security arrangements for delivery executives while on duty so that no other family has to go through this pain.
Officials of the said e-commerce company also reached the spot to control the situation and pacified the protesters.
The matter came to light only on Oct 1. Police arrested one accused, Aakash Kumar, 21, on the same day, while the prime accused, Gajanand, 22, surrendered before a Barabanki court in an old case on Wednesday. |
