WNBA first-round pick Nika Muhl left the court after suffering an injury while playing overseas

Seattle Storm first-round pick Nika Muhl was seen on a stretcher on Thursday after suffering a knee injury during the FIBA ​​Women’s SuperCup title game.

Muhl, who was playing for Besiktas JK against Fenerbahçe SK in Turkey, fell after taking the rebound when her left leg buckled on the pitch. She clutched her knee, which immediately hurt, while everyone on the court looked concerned.

The injury, which occurred three minutes into the third quarter, caused coaches to quickly come to Muhl’s aid. However, the audience and the broadcast heard how painful the injury was.

“Oh my God,” Muhl could be heard saying. “Don’t touch it!”

Muhl was stretchered off the field, but she could be seen on her team’s bench after the match. She never returned to play and her left knee was wrapped in a bandage.

Muhl finished the game with 11 points, three rebounds, nine assists and two steals for Besiktas.

As the two teams shook hands after the match, Fenerbahçe players approached Muhl to offer their support.

This included Gabby Williams, who played with Muhl on the Storm this season. Muhl was seen in tears after the hug with Williams.

It was determined that Muhl had torn her anterior cruciate ligament, prematurely ending her first season abroad. Besitkas JK announced that Muhl will join the team for the 2024-2025 season in the KBSL.

Muhl played limited minutes for Seattle this year as she admitted she had to earn her role on the team compared to more experienced WNBA players. She averaged 3.6 minutes per game.
