An elderly man was duped of Rs 3 lakh by a fake representative

Hyderabad: As e-commerce companies launched their long-awaited sales in the last week of September, reports emerged of cybercriminals targeting unsuspecting customers. According to reports, a 74-year-old retired employee fell victim to fraud after he contacted the company’s customer service department for help regarding a missing product.

The victim searched the Internet for a call center number and unknowingly contacted a scammer posing as a customer service representative of the company. The fraudster managed to manipulate the victim, resulting in a loss of Rs 3.08 lakh.

The victim stated in his complaint that he believed he was speaking to an authorized customer service representative. Additionally, the victim, who was already busy with household matters, could not concentrate much.

The fraudster urged the victim to reveal confidential information, including bank account numbers and financial details, under the pretext of solving the problem of the missing product. Then he stole the money.

After realizing the scam, the victim registered a case with the Rachakonda cyber crime wing, which registered a case and is investigating.
