How to configure remote access in Windows

1. Quick help

Quick Assist is a built-in remote access tool available in Windows 10 and 11.

  • To get started, search Quick help in the Start menu or find it in the Windows Accessories folder.
  • Open the app and select “Help someone” Then log in with a Microsoft account (your friend or family member doesn’t need one).
  • You will receive six-digit code which expires in 10 minutes.
  • Then, share this code with the person you are helping.
  • They should open Quick Help and enter the code in the “Get help” section.
  • After them grant permission, you will be able to control their computer. You can even use the remote restart option to restart your computer and stay connected.

2. Windows Remote Assistance

For Windows 7, 8 or 10 users, you can use the older one Remote assistance tool.

  • Ask the person you are helping to search for it “Invite someone to connect to your computer” on Windows or find it via Control panel.
  • They must email you the invitation file and share the generated password.

3. Remote Desktop Connection

How to set up remote access on your Mac

1. Screen sharing in messages

Mac users can use the Messages app to get remote assistance. Both parties must sign in with their Apple ID and use macOS.

  • Open The news.
  • Start or select conversation.
  • Click “me” button.
  • Then click Participation.

WITH iOS 18Apple has improved the SharePlay feature in FaceTime, making it easier than ever to help family members remotely solve computer problems. Here’s how you can use SharePlay to guide them through troubleshooting steps:

  • Start a FaceTime call: Start by initiating a FaceTime call with the family member who needs help.
  • Activate SharePlay: Once connected, tap SharePlay button. This will give you several options including screen sharing Or requesting access on the other person’s screen.
  • Share your screen: If you want to show them how to do a task, choose “Share my screen.” This will send your screen to the other person, allowing them to follow your instructions.
  • Request screen access: If you want to see that person’s screen to diagnose the problem, select “Ask to share.” The other person will need it approve this request. Once approved, their screen will appear on your device.

Ssettings may vary depending on the manufacturer of your Android phone

  • Open Google Meet app on your Android device.
  • Crash Create a new meeting.
  • Obtain Participation
  • Then share meeting link with a family member in need of help through a text Or e-mail.
  • Both you and your family member should join the conversation using link provided.
  • Click three dot menu in the lower right corner and select “Share screen”. Choose screen Or app you want to share. This will allow the other person to see your screen and follow your instructions.
  • If you want to see the person’s screen to diagnose the problem, ask them to share their screen using the button the same steps. They will have to approve this request.
