The saleswoman who convinced Hezbollah: New details about pager explosion

The Washington Post Office published an investigation last night (Sunday) that includes new details about the explosion of Hezbollah pagers.

The exploding pagers were manufactured in Israel in 2022 and, unbeknownst to them, incorporated into the supply lines of Thai manufacturer Apollo.

The sales representative managed to convince Hezbollah to buy 5,000 pagers, arguing that they were immune to Israeli espionage. The representative recommended a model with an extended battery and a hard case. The terrorist organization purchased pagers and equipped its agents with them.

The operation was preceded by another Mossad operation ten years ago, during which hundreds of communication devices were sold to Hezbollah and given to its fighters. These devices were equipped not only with explosives, but also with tracking devices that allowed Israel to listen in on conversations taking place on them.

According to the report, in the days before the operation, decision-makers in Israel debated the possibility of detonating the explosives for fear of a harsh reaction from Hezbollah.

After deciding on action, the fighters received a message on their pager that there was an encrypted message waiting for them, which required pressing two buttons at the same time and using both hands to read it. In this way, Israel ensured that the injuries to Hezbollah fighters would be significant and would affect both hands.
