Writing to the party-led Bharatiya Janata Center over reports of plans to privatize and sell Indian Medicines Pharmaceutical Corporation Limited (IMPCL), Congress president Priyanka Gandhi said the plans “revealed” the “hypocrisy” of promoting Ayurveda and AYUSH.

This is the main drug factory of Ayurveda and Unani Medicines, which supplies medicines throughout the country and also abroad,” she wrote in her 10th post.

“It made a profit of ₹18 crore last year and is preparing to pay a dividend of ₹6 crores to the government. This unit employs over 500 employees, and thousands of small farmers supply their small products and raw materials. The plan to sell the profitable drug manufacturing company exposes the truth about the hypocrisy of promoting Ayurveda and AYUSH,” the Congress leader added.

Gandhi further questioned the motives behind the sale, suggesting that it may involve the transfer of valuable national assets to select individuals for profit.

“What could be his motive other than to hand over the country’s valuable wealth for the purpose of selecting friends and filling their coffers?” she added.
