Will Fries was injured during the Indianapolis Colts-Jacksonville Jaguars game

Offensive guard Will Fries was injured in the Indianapolis Colts’ Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This will certainly be a major blow to an already injury-plagued Colts team.

Late in the third quarter, Fries went down with an injury to his lower right leg. Colts linemen knelt around him and trainers pulled out an air cast. The entire Colts bench supported Fries as he was carried off the field tied to a backboard. CBS declined to replay the injury, leading to speculation on social media about its severity. There are rumors that he broke his right leg. As he was carried off the field, he was surrounded not only by his Colts teammates, but also by Jaguars players.

Fries was selected by the Colts in the 2021 draft and named right guard in 2022.

Dalton Tucker took Fries’ place at right back. Tucker is a graduate of Marshall University, where he allowed just three sacks and 19 pressures in his last two years with the team. He went undrafted in the 2024 draft and then signed with the Colts as a free agent.

The Colts have dealt with a number of injuries over the past few weeks, especially to starting QB Anthony Richardson and quarterback Jonathan Taylor. Center Ryan Kelly and right tackle Braden Smith were also unable to play this week. Defensively, they are missing Tyquan Lewis, Kwity Paye, Kenny Moore II, DeForest Buckner, Juju Brents and Samson Ebukam. Fries’ injury is one the Colts don’t need right now as they struggle to gain momentum heading into the rest of the 2024 season.
