Mother and daughter say a tracking app helped save an 18-year-old’s life

FAIRLAWN, Ohio (WOIO) – The day started like any other for mom Kelly Dean in Fairlawn when an alert on her phone changed everything.

Her recently licensed daughter, Kylee Dean, was excited to return to the senior living facility on September 20.

“The alarm went off that they had detected an accident with her car, and he sent me a map and said he called 911,” Kelly said.

When Kylee stopped at the intersection of Smith Road and Corunna Avenue, the sun was so bright that morning that she couldn’t see if the light had changed.

Kylee hit the gas and saw a car in front of her.

“I tried to get out of the car because I wanted to talk to the people I hit, but then I realized I was dizzy and I could see all the blood.”

Kylee was taken to hospital and underwent eye surgery for damage to the iris and lens.

“I can’t see out of this eye at all, it’s completely black. it was really hard to get used to it,” Kylee said about her right eye.

Kylee is hoping for a new iris and lens once her eye begins to heal.

Kelly said her tracking app helped Kylee.

“You may be annoyed that your parents are following you at all times, but in a situation like this it could save your life,” Kylee said.
