A fantastic first look at the next spin-off of Netflix’s big crime drama has been revealed

Work on the Peaky Blinders spin-off film is currently underway and the first photos from the film have been published.

The series – about the Peaky Blinders, a fictional criminal gang that formed in Birmingham, England after the First World War – was originally broadcast in the UK on the BBC, but became a global success when Netflix picked up the US rights a decade ago now.

The show’s popularity was so great that Netflix ordered a sequel to the film (along with BBC Film), with Cillian Murphy returning as Tommy Shelby, as well as Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan and Tim Roth.

Speaking about the film set during World War II, creator Steven Knight explained: “The country is at war and so are our Peaky Blinders.”

This will be a time shift for the series. The series was set in Birmingham between 1919 and 1934, so it’s safe to say that a few things will happen leading up to the season finale and the movie.

It is directed by Tom Harper, who was the director of the series. He told Netflix about his involvement: “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we knew there was something about the alchemy of the cast and the script that felt explosive.

“‘Peaky’ has always been a story about family, so it is incredibly exciting to reunite with Steve and Cillian to bring the film to audiences around the world on Netflix.”

Netflix did similar with another major drama acquired from the BBC, Luther. After the detective series ended, another film, Luther: The Fallen Son, was released. Despite poor reviews, it was a huge streaming success.

There is no release date for Peaky Blinders yet, but filming is currently underway in Birmingham and the Midlands.
