Man convicted of inciting the murder of former CE Carrie Lam

On Monday, a man was sentenced to 16 months in prison for inciting the killing of then-chief executive Carrie Lam four years ago.

Pun Tak-shu, a 64-year-old retiree, was found guilty of inciting grievous bodily harm with intent over a Facebook post discussing how Lam was killed in 2020.

He previously pleaded not guilty.

To soften the defense, the defense said Pun posted “just for fun” and not at a time when the city’s violence was at its worst, and added that he deleted the post after his arrest.

The court was also told that Pun had lung problems and required treatment.

However, District Judge Stanley Chan found that the fast had exacerbated conflicts and had an incendiary effect. He said that many people were influenced by the political atmosphere at the time and may have heeded his call.

The court set the beginning of Pun’s prison sentence at 18 months, after which it deducted two months, taking into account his health condition and the fact that he essentially agreed with the arguments presented by the prosecutor’s office.
