Maple Leafs sign former Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty to a one-year contract

TORONTO — Max Pacioretty has a new home.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed the veteran to a one-year contract on Monday after he left training camp on a professional tryout.

The 35-year-old former Montreal Canadiens captain, who will earn a base salary of $873,770 in 2024-25, scored four goals and 23 points in 47 games for the Washington Capitals last season.

Selected 22nd overall in the 2007 NHL Draft by Montreal, Pacioretty scored 330 goals and 668 points in 902 career games. He added 50 points (25 goals, 25 assists) in 78 playoff games.

Meanwhile, Steven Lorentz will join Toronto after successful professional trials and sign a one-year contract worth $775,000. The 28-year-old won the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers in June.

The Leafs have also signed defenseman Cade Webber to a two-year contract extension that will begin in the 2025-2026 season. The 23-year-old’s NHL contract, worth $825,000 per year, is two-way for next season and will become one-way in 2026-27.
