MENDOCINO CO., 10/14/24 – The National Weather Service has issued a coastal hazard warning for Monday along the Mendocino Coast.

The service is asking people to avoid steep beaches, rocks and piers.

The warning expires at 7 p.m. tonight.

According to the weather service, “unexpectedly large waves can sweep across the beach without warning, sweeping people into the sea from rocks, jetties and beaches.” The service also said large objects such as logs can be displaced by waves, crushing pets and animals trapped underneath.

“Don’t be fooled by an ocean that appears calm,” the service said. “There can be 30 minutes of small waves before a sneaker wave arrives…stay much further from the water and never turn your back on the ocean.”

Mendocino County includes many microclimates. To learn more about weather and warnings in your area, visit Weather.gov.
