Oscar winner Colin Firth (The king’s speech) stars in Peacock’s first teaser Lockerbie: a search for the truth. The limited series explores the explosion of Pan Am Flight 103 in 1988 and is set to premiere on Peacock and Sky on January 2, 2025.

The five-part series also stars Catherine McCormack, Rosanna Adams, Jemma Carlton, Harry Redding, Sam Troughton, Mark Bonner, Ardalan Esmaili and Selwa Jghalef.

“Inspired by a true story, on December 21, 1988, 259 passengers and crew were killed when Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie 38 minutes after takeoff, and 11 other residents lost their lives when the plane crashed above Lockerbie. the quiet Scottish town. Following the disaster and the death of his daughter, Dr. Jim Swire (Firth) is appointed spokesperson for the families of the British victims, who have united to demand truth and justice. Traveling across continents and political divides, Jim embarks on a relentless journey that not only jeopardizes his stability, his family, and his life, but completely upends his faith in the justice system,” reads the synopsis for Peacock.

The synopsis continues: “As the truth shifts beneath Jim’s feet, his view of the world is changed forever. Explore the events of the disaster and its consequences, Lockerbie: a search for the truth provides the intimate account of a man, a husband and a father who risks everything in memory of his daughter and in the unwavering quest for truth and justice.

David Harrower wrote the limited series and serves as executive producer alongside series director Otto Bathurst. Other executive producers include Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, Sam Hoyle, Liz Trubridge, Jim Sheridan, Kirsten Sheridan and Oskar Slingerland.

Commenting on the series, executive producers Neame and Marchant said: “The bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 was one of the most devastating acts of terrorism that cost the lives of 270 innocent people, including American and British citizens. As spokespersons for the families of the British victims, we have followed the remarkable story of Jim Swire for more than three decades. It makes sense now to watch Colin Firth’s captivating performance as he depicts Jim’s life’s work on screen.

Part a deeply moving story of love and loss, this drama is as much an investigative political thriller that shows how an ordinary man with unstoppable determination can take on governments and world leaders in pursuit of the truth .
