Thief banned from all Cambridge Co-op stores

A thief has been banned from all Co-op stores in Cambridge following his latest conviction for shoplifting.

Liam Basham, 30, of no fixed address, was sentenced to a criminal behavior order (CBO) for two years at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (October 10), banning him from all co-ops.

He is also banned from Sainsbury’s and the BP Garage in Teversham Road.

The order follows his latest shoplifting conviction after he pleaded guilty to 12 counts of shoplifting after stealing items including meat, alcohol and household products, in cooperatives on Milton Avenue, Perne Road and Hills Road between July 25 and August 29.

Basham also targeted Tesco in Chesterton and Nisa in Capuchin Court. He was sentenced on September 20 to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for one year.

Sergeant Dan Scott, of the Offenders Team, said: “Basham has caused misery to shops across the town, particularly Co-ops, with his persistent offending. We hope this order brings some relief to the company and others. Any violation of this CBO will be dealt with rigorously.
