Woman accused of pretending to be a dentist and performing botched root canal treatment

HOUSTON (TMX/Gray News) – A woman in Texas is accused of posing as a dentist and even giving patients anesthesia for “botched” root canals.

Angelica Vivas, 41, was charged with two felonies of practicing dentistry and performing dental surgery without a license, the Houston Police Department said.

Vivas allegedly posed as a licensed dentist practicing in Katy, a suburb of Houston, and anesthetized at least two patients multiple times, according to charging documents.

He allegedly performed a “botched” root canal on a patient in February.

The patient, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: CPR He said that Vivas removed two molars to reach the tooth that required root canal treatment, but ultimately could not perform the root canal treatment.

Instead, he said there was nothing else he could do and sent the patient home with pain medication. Vivas also allegedly told the patient that the root would “grow out on its own.”

After experiencing severe pain, the patient went to a real dentist, who warned her to call the police regarding her interactions with Vivas.

The patient required surgery to correct problems allegedly caused by Vivas.

Undercover officers visited Vivas posing as potential patients. He allegedly claimed to be a dentist and offered to perform dentistry for undercover officers.

Vivas was released on $50,000 bail pending a possible hearing Wednesday.

Under the terms of its affiliation, Vivas is prohibited from advertising, offering or performing dental services.

Police are appealing for other potential victims to come forward.
