“Online representatives” to fight fake news about government policies

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government has introduced ‘online ambassadors’ to counter misinformation and disseminate accurate information on government policies among citizens.

Minister Nga Kor Ming (photo) announced the selection of 200 ministry employees who will support the efforts of the Madani government.

Announcing this after opening the Virtual Touch ministerial workshop held here yesterday, he said the team would adopt a user-friendly approach to shed light on the effective policies put in place by the unity government.

“In the digital age, social media plays a key role in disseminating information.

“Short videos, live events and multiple platforms can be used to coordinate government information so that people unite in supporting the aspirations of the Madani government,” Bernama said in a report.

Nga urged internet ambassadors to create engaging content, adding that through creativity, accurate information can be communicated more effectively to attract public attention.

“The sky is the limit,” Nga said of the group’s freedom to disseminate information.

Citing an example, he said the country’s achievements in the Global Peace Index, where Malaysia was ranked the 10th most peaceful country in the world and recently third in the Asia-Pacific region, deserved wide attention.

He emphasized that this was because last year the country took 19th place overall.

Nga said the inclusive nature of the Madani government’s policies, celebration of diversity and compassion are among the reasons why the country performs so well on the peace index.
