Def Leppard brings Tom Morello to the new stadium rocker ‘Just Like 73’

Before def During Leppard’s summer tour, the band teamed up with Tom Morello on a new one-off single, “Just Like 73”.

According to the group, the made-for-stadium rocker harkens back to the early 1970s, capturing the music and technological breakthroughs of that era.

“When I saw David Bowie on TV in 1972-1973, everything I thought I knew about music changed from black and white to vivid technicolor,” Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen said in a statement. “Our song ‘Just Like 73’ represents that awakening.”

Joe Elliott added about the single: “It contains a time that is etched deep in our DNA. We wanted to celebrate this very important and glorious time.”

Morello — who also announced his new solo album, Soldier of the Army of Love Wednesday – Appears mid-song to perform one of his signature stunning guitar solos. “I had a great time playing the solo on ‘Just Like 73,'” Morello added in a statement. “I played ‘Rock Of Ages’ in my college cover band almost 40 years ago, and here Def Leppard is still wowing stadiums with a brand new song that’s one of their best.”

The animated music video for “Just Like 73” – featuring the band and Morello – will be released on June 20. The track will also be available for pre-order as a limited 7-inch single, which will be released on August 2.

Def Leppard’s massive stadium tour with the Journey co-founder kicks off on July 6 in St. Louis and runs until September 8 in Denver. Heart, Steve Miller Band and Cheap Trick will be special guests at selected concerts.
