HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer welcomes the Consul General of Denmark

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Director General and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), recently received His Excellency Joakim Larsen, Consul General of the Kingdom of Denmark in Dubai, at DEWA headquarters. The meeting highlighted the ongoing cooperation between DEWA and Danish companies in the renewable energy, sustainable development and advanced technology sectors.

Discussions reaffirmed a shared vision for a sustainable future and commitment to clean energy innovation. By leveraging Denmark’s advanced technologies and DEWA’s strategic initiatives, both parties aim to achieve significant progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence, and Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and Future at DEWA, ​​also attended the meeting.

Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s ambitious projects and initiatives that aim to position Dubai as a global center for clean energy and green economy. He discussed DEWA’s comprehensive sustainability strategy, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. By 2030, the park’s capacity will exceed 5,000 MW, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 6.5 million tons per year. The solar park significantly contributes to the implementation of Dubai Clean Energy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to ensure 100% of Dubai’s generation capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.

Al Tayer also highlighted DEWA’s pioneering green hydrogen project, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), which uses solar energy to produce hydrogen, demonstrating the potential of hydrogen as a clean fuel.

Discussions focused on DEWA’s investments in advanced energy storage systems and smart grid technologies to increase energy efficiency and ensure a reliable energy supply. This includes deploying smart meters and integrating artificial intelligence to optimize energy consumption and reduce waste.

HE Joakim Larsen praised DEWA’s extraordinary achievements and innovative projects in the renewable energy sector. He expressed Denmark’s strong interest in sharing expertise and exploring potential cooperation on sustainable energy solutions and smart grid technologies.
