Indonesia is becoming a model of a developing country for Africans: Prabowo

JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto said African countries have begun to see Indonesia as a model of a developing country that is successful in its domestic policies and global diplomacy.

“What matters now is that Africa is starting to look at us,” Prabowo said after attending a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Palace on Thursday (June 13).

He said he observed such trends during the emergency international summit on Gaza held on Tuesday (June 11) in Amman, Jordan.

On the sidelines of the agenda, Prabowo met with Mozambican President Felipe Nyusi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

“They now see Indonesia as an example of a successful developing country in the Global South,” the minister noted.

He confirmed that both African leaders are interested in studying the Indonesian government’s strategy to address social problems.

“Our steps, our determination to move downstream (natural resources) and our interaction with people suffering in the world are interesting to them,” Prabowo noted.

Meanwhile, referring to Indonesia’s diplomacy at the conference in Jordan, he confirmed that Indonesia had proposed concrete commitments to address the humanitarian catastrophe caused by Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.

“As a first step, we are ready to receive a thousand injured Palestinians. We are also ready to accept a thousand children to continue their studies in Indonesia and return home after completing their studies,” Prabowo said.

“I believe that our steps are respected by many countries,” he added.

Indonesia’s specific actions during the conference were also praised by Rwanda and Mozambique, which intend to imitate the policy of the Indonesian government, the minister noted.

“They invited me. They asked for Indonesia’s support and help, as well as for the opportunity to pursue education in Indonesia,” Prabowo noted.
