The Bakersfield Fire Department received a donation for AED devices

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Fire Department received a grant for emergency equipment on Thursday.

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation honored BFD with a $49,000 donation to purchase 14 automated external defibrillators. These devices are essential when someone suffers cardiac arrest. The AED analyzes the patient’s heart rhythm and delivers an electric shock to restore the heart’s normal rhythm.

“It’s really, really, really nice that we’re doing this because it’s about saving lives. I know that with this equipment… the first people we call in any emergency or anything. We are happy that we can help them save lives,” said Cristina Perez, franchisee and manager of Firehouse Subs.

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation is a charitable organization that provides lifesaving equipment, education, scholarships and disaster relief to first responders and public safety organizations.
Since 2005, it has donated more than $83 million to local heroes across the country.
